PTaQ Day One is the heart of the local testing community open globally, to bring together people who are passionate about testing.
On Saturday, March 30th, together with the Poznan University of Technology, we organize a conference in the area of testing & quality. We invite you to hear talks and what is even more important, we will give space for what is uncountable, yet still valuable, that is joint conversations, building relationships and sharing knowledge and experiences.

Eight years ago, we were thinking about doing something for the community in Poznan, but also for ourselves. We wanted to share what we know, we wanted to inspire others to what we are passionate about - to testing and the software quality. This is how the first test meetup was born - PTaQ (Poznań Testing and Quality). Before the first meeting, we were afraid that no-one would show up. We could not imagine that this initiative will grow to the degree that the tickets will be distributed within a few hours after the registration opens, and we will have a full agenda half a year ahead.
From the beginning, we did not want PTaQ to be dependent on one company. We wanted to support each and every person and institution that is willing to share their knowledge. Hence,the unique approach to organizing a meetup at various locations in Poznań companies and universities. During these eight years, as PTaQ we visited almost 20 different places, over 100 practitioners from Poland and abroad shared their experience during almost 60 meetups. When we talk to friends from other cities, we hear that they envy us the local community, its commitment and selfless sharing of knowledge. Based on the popularity of PTaQ and the unique local community, we came up with another idea - the conference.

A short welcome from The Conference Board
Defender's point of view at the state of cyber security in early 2019. Attackers are continuously evolving, coming up with new attack techniques and so are defenders. Where are we now in that arms race? How does corporate cyber security relate to the privacy issues? Is AI an answer to the growing complexity of the attack landscape combined with the shortage of skilled workforce or will AI rather become yet another attack vector - also one insanely difficult to protect. Let's have a look at all of this and consider whether today's protection and validation methods can protect us against tomorrow's threats.
Leszek Tasiemski - is a VP of B2B R&D at F-Secure. Responsible for building Rapid Detection Center and the technology behind the business cyber security solutions portfolio of F-Secure. He has many yeasrs of experience in performing penetration tests and forensic analyses, mainly for the European financial sector. Enthusiast and implementator of Machine Learning applications in detecting cyber attacks. Graduated from Computer Science, Economics and MBA. Currently studying Psychology. Active as a mentor on start-up scene and a certified yoga teacher.
In 1999, John Doerr became one of Google's shareholders. He invested about 12 million dollars in the startup of Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Additionally, Doerr also proposed a management model based on goals and key results (Objective and Key Result), which he learned while working in Intel. Since then, the OKR approach has become more and more popular. Currently, many large companies such as Dropbox, Zalando, Uber use this tool more and more often.
At the beginning of the presentation, I will explain the basics of OKR. Then I will present a motivation to introduce them in the case of HolidayCheck. Based on lessons learned from that company, I will finish a talk proposing 7 steps to implement OKR in the organization.
Tomek Dąbrowski - associated with Agile Poznań since the beginning. His passion is to create agile organizations based on trust, transparency and end-customer orientation. Test Automation was always a hot topic. As passionate I have a pleasure to observe this trend from many years. Also working with automation daily I’ve performed many experiments like changing a job that I want to talk about. During the speech, I would like to invite you to look at the issue from many different angles eg. roles that you can find in your organization or methodology that you are using in the project. For sure there will be few words about the none-technical challenges that I see currently in my project. Also as a member of the certification and conference community, something about automaton syllabus and have heard trends.
Sebastian Małyska - Telecommunication and Electronics specialty by education. He has 14 years of experience in various projects, mostly in the QA field. He was working as a manual tester, an automation engineer, project QA lead, he worked also as a QA Manager, leading a small team of testers. Currently, involved in the transformation to DevOps activities. My favorite programming language is Python. After work, vice-president of Polish Testing Board and founder of a local QA meetup. Member of the programme committee of few conferences. Organizer the biggest Polish conference TestWarez.
QA is often considered as a good (easy) way of starting a career in software engineering. Many of the engineers stay in the field also for long years. What if your ambitions are different, or you just want to try out something different. This talk gives insight into the different options you have once you have started your career also what to do to achieve your desired position.
Rainar Ütt - I run company called Qualito - which is headquartered in Estonia and focuses on providing quality software development and outsourcing services for Western European clients. During the past 15 years I have held various software engineering roles: Tester, Developer, Team Lead Test Automation, Test Manager, Head of QA, Principal Engineer, Head of Development, Consultant and Entrepreneur. Currently based in Munich, I have also been working in Sweden, UK, Germany, Estonia and India.
When I started my IT career 9 years ago, I never imagined myself leaving my home country to work in another continent and become a Test Manager in the world’s largest biotech company.
I would like share in this presentation how I approached some key situations that any tester can experience and used these as opportunities for growth as well as have some good stories to share.

Performance, security, resistance to defects – in accordance with such standards we design application architecture. During this session I will show you how to measure application performance on JVM and how much the application performance can be affected by a change not at the architecture level, but at the thread model level. On the example, I will show you how to interpret performance and resource consumption charts, how much information you can draw by correlating data from these charts, and what you can learn about the application itself.
Maciej Laskowski - Specialist in system integration, scalability and application performance. Fascinated by reactive programming, RxJava and light microservice architecture (Vert.x). Co-creator of such open source tools as Knot.x (supporting integration of web systems) and AET (automatic testing system). Currently Principal Software Engineer in Cognifide, a Polish-British company creating enterprise web platforms
Sometimes we keep pieces of know-how for ourselves (intentionally or unintentionally) in fear of diminishing own value for the organization. But our value for the organization is based on talents and skills, not some secret-magic-hidden know-how possessed only by us. Training own replacement is not putting ourselves in danger, on the contrary, is actually putting ourselves in better position.
With the presentation I'll tell my own story of realizing this, and present pros of mentoring a real successor.
Milena Sobolewska - QA Lead with 8+ years of practice. Accomplished in automation, as well as regular testing. Experienced mostly with desktop solutions. Passionate, opinionated and conscientious but always open and eager to learn something new.
Psychology, emotional intelligence and empathy are important aspects of testing, key tools in testers' toolbox yet there is little formal training related to those topics. In my experience (which surely is biased), most companies focus on the development of technical skills of testers. Soft skills may be taken for granted: you either come to the company with those skills fully developed or you magically develop them by yourself using the trial and error method along the way. So how to approach this conundrum? What should we learn and teach each other? The fact that psychologists still debate whether psychology is a science or not surely does not help. I am myself a master of psychology and in this talk, I would like to present how psychology can help in your daily work. I will present various psychological concepts with practical examples and I will outline the boundaries of psychology, i.e. that you won't solve all of your problems simply by understanding the discoveries of psychology. If it was so, there would be no depressed psychologists... I will start by presenting the concept of cognitive biases, or in other words: how and why our thoughts and decisions deviate from rationality. Among the cognitive biases, I will present you will learn e.g. what fundamental attribution error is or how anchoring heuristic influences your estimates. Secondly, I will present the basics of transactional analysis, a psychological theory that can help you understand and change your relations with other people. Lastly, I will briefly describe what emotional intelligence is, why it's useful for testers and how to train this competence. A 45-minute long presentation won't be able to cover all of those topics in all complexity so I will leave the listeners with practical next steps: simple exercises and literature recommendations.
Bruno Mańczak - a Psychologist and Cognitive Scientist by education. He has multiple years of experience in the QA field, mostly working in web-based projects. He was working as an automation tester, he was a project QA lead, he worked also as a QA Manager, leading a team of 50 testers. Currently, he loves to share his experiences with others, teach and coach new testers. In his private life, he presently learns in practice how software development is similar to building a house.
Kiedy zaczynasz testowanie w czasie gdy w Polsce nie ma zbyt wielu osób, które cokolwiek o testowaniu wiedzą uczysz się z każdego dostępnego źródła. Sięgasz po sylabusy ISTQB i publikacje tam polecane. Nieświadomy tego skierowujesz swoją ścieżkę rozwoju na procesy i przypadki testowe. Gdy do tego system, który testujesz jest krytyczny pod względem bezpieczeństwa uczysz się skrajnego formalizmu i biurokracji. A teraz nałóż na to jeszcze niemiecką precyzję i niechęć do zmian… Tak wyglądał początek mojej nauki testowania. Jednak zmiana projektu i otwarcie innej perspektywy pokazało mi, że nie zawsze musimy stosować najbardziej biurokratyczne metody. Testowanie może być lekkie i jednocześnie skuteczne. Poznałem i zafascynowałem się testowaniem eksploracyjnym i zacząłem je stosować w swoich projektach. Droga ta jednak była długa i pełna błędów. Przecierałem przecież ścieżkę, której nikt przede mną nie pokonał, a jeśli nawet to zrobił to nie podzielił się tą wiedzą. Podczas mojego wykładu poprzez swoje sukcesy i porażki pokażę jak tester i jak organizacje przechodzą od formalizmu do eksploracji.
Radek Smilgin – ekspert i konsultant w obszarze testowania i zapewnienia jakości oprogramowania, przedsiębiorca. Swoje testerskie szlify zdobywał za granicą, pracując przy budowaniu i weryfikacji systemów krytycznych pod względem bezpieczeństwa. W swojej pracy łączy dwie testerskie szkoły – testowanie formalne i eksploracyjne.
Jest pomysłodawcą i organizatorem Mistrzostw w Testowaniu Oprogramowania – TestingCup. Autor książki dla początkujących testerów – „Zawód Tester”.
Swoją wiedzą i doświadczeniem dzieli się w Internecie na portalu testerzy.pl oraz na wielu otwartych i zamkniętych wykładach w kraju i za granicą.

Testowanie gier brzmi super i jest marzeniem wielu dzieciaków. Jest to też dość ciężka praca. Podczas prezentacji postaram się rzucić nieco światła na to jak naprawdę wygląda praca testera gier, jakie obowiązki z niej wynikają i dlaczego nie każdy może być testerem gier.
Paulina Vera Szmidt - Freelancer, zajmuje się testowaniem gier dla niezależnych studiów.
Pewnego dnia wpadłem na pomysł stworzenia czegoś nowego w firmie w której pracuję. Stworzyłem projekt, przedstawiłem go wraz z założeniami i raportem moim przełożonym. Pomysł z założenia był prosty. Wziąć komputer, podłączyć do niego kilka urządzeń i tym samym usprawnić proces automatyzacji testów aplikacji mobilnych w firmie. Brzmi prosto, prawda? Projekt się spodobał, otrzymałem zielonego światło, własny projekt i programistę do pomocy! Tak rozpoczęła się historia powstawania laboratorium urządzeń mobilnych. Chciałbym opowiedzieć Wam historię o tym jak prosty w założeniach pomysł przerodził się w realiach dużej firmy w ogromne wyzwanie dla małego dwuosobowego zespołu sprowadzając pracę testera na całkiem nowe tory. Poznasz historię przejścia z pojedynczego komputera osobistego na obsługę serwerów z perspektywy testera aplikacji mobilnych. Porzucenia graficznego interfejsu użytkownika na rzecz linii komend linuxa server. Jednego telefonu na rzecz kilkudziesięciu. Gdzie problemy z własnym antywirusem zmieniają się w problemy bezpieczeństwa wewnętrznej infrastruktury. A awaria jednego telefonu może zniszczyć cały budynek.
Piotr Wicherski - Pasjonat Mobile QA. Trochę udziela się w społeczności testerskiej.
Przykre zapachy kodu (ang. code smells) są określeniem powszechnie stosowanym przez programistów do wskazania takich wad kodu źródłowego, które wprawdzie nie wpływają na jego obecną funkcjonalność, natomiast ograniczają możliwość jego dalszego rozwoju i wprowadzania poprawek. Metafora zapachów w intuicyjny sposób łączy metody identyfikacji problemu wraz z możliwymi metodami jego usunięcia, dzięki czemu cieszy się ona sporą popularnością wśród programistów. Podobny problem może dotyczyć także testów. Źle napisane testy jednostkowe mogą utrudnić tworzenie nowych przypadków testowych, ich modyfikowanie i wykonywanie, a także mogą wymuszać tworzenie skomplikowanych scenariuszy testowych. W efekcie, takie testy będą raczej zniechęcać programistów, przez co nie będą prawidłowo spełniać swojego zadania.
Podczas prezentacji przedstawię kilka rodzajów zapachów testowych, ich typowe przyczyny i sposoby usuwania.
Bartosz Walter - pracuje w PCSSie i na Politechnice Poznańskiej. Zajmuje się problemem jakości kodu, metodami oceny tej jakości i jej wpływem na utrzymanie oprogramowania.
Historia zespołu programistycznego w dużej firmie produktowej testującego metodologię pracy radical focus (opisana przez Christinę Wodtke w publikacji o takim tytule).
W codziennej pracy nad wytwarzaniem oprogramowania łatwo jest stracić skupienie. Rola QA i testera jest szczególnie podatna na zagrożenie multi-taskingu i rozpraszania się na kilka wątków naraz.
Jako zespół przyjęliśmy wyzwanie nowego stylu pracy, wszystko po to żeby skupić się na najważniejszym - wytwarzaniu jak najbardziej wolnego od błędów oraz przydatnego użytkownikom oprogramowania.

Anastasia Naboikina - I started to work in IT on my 4th year of University which gave me an opportunity to work on various projects, with different technologies and domains. I am a passionate perfectionist, that's why setting up environments, projects and processes excites me the most. My favorite programming language is Python, I also enjoy JavaScript, in particular React.js.
